How long do I leave it on?

Five to ten minutes on cleansed skin, then rinse with warm water. Two or three times a week suits most people. It cools on contact without refrigeration, though a chilled jar feels lovely in Indian summers.

There are gritty bits in it. Is this a scrub?

Those are crushed mugwort leaf particles. They give a mild polish as you rinse, so apply a thick, generous layer and let the water do the work rather than rubbing, especially on reactive skin.

Why does it smell so strong?

That herbal, almost medicinal smell is the mugwort itself, as nothing has been added to cover it. It is noticeable only while the mask is on and rinses away completely, so it will not linger on your pillow.
